16-October-2006 PDNC News Service
Relentless in its efforts to spread the good news and share the benefits its products can bring to institutions, the PDNC team of VP Sam Estrella, heads of R&D and networking, Janfel Villahermosa and Cesar Macaraig, respectively, zoomed over to Goa, Camarines Sur on 21 September to demonstrate the Wyred System and Cablinet System.
PDNC gave a full demonstration of the two systems it developed at the PARTIDO State University, an academic institution whose operations have already embraced the modernization wave. It has already adopted computerization in specific aspects of its operations but still plans to take full advantage of newly developed practical IT solutions available and implement a university-wide IT modernization.
Mr. Janfel Villahermosa, a self-made IT expert specializing in open source computing and Java programming reiterated the advantages of the Wyred System, a Linux-based terminal server system which he and PDNC jointly developed in 2005. Prior to his demonstration, he shared short videos advocating open source computing with the key message of giving users freedom of choice in the world of information technology. The said concept of freedom runs alive at PDNC. The company believes that innovation should benefit not only PDNC itself but other institutions that have noble intentions as well.
Complementing Mr. Villahermosa’s presentation was Mr. Cesar Macaraig, also an expert in his own field. Mr. Macaraig presented the Cablinet System, a networking solution that evolved as the Wyred System was being perfected. Cablinet was developed to address the networking needs of existing and prospective Wyred System users. It is an organized cabling system that uses Gigabit technology developed by PDNC with Mr. Macaraig as the project leader.
Considered a one-two punch formula of PDNC, these two systems work hand-in-hand to provide seamless integration of software and networking infrastructure for institutions requiring medium to heavy network computing. Whether separately or combined, these two systems provide cost-effective computing and gives clients huge savings that may not have been possible with Windows-based systems. And since it was developed in an open source environment, its reliability and security is uncompromised.
Besides the Wyred and Cablinet Systems, VP Estrella also introduced the other services of PDNC such as web site development and its innovative internet shop partnership exclusively for students of that client institution. Proceeds of the shop goes to both PDNC and the client institution.
The said partnership was successfully pioneered at the Laguna State Polytechnic College (LSPC) headed by President Ricardo Wagan. Such arrangement benefited not only both parties but more importantly the students as well who might not have enough financial resources to do research in other private internet shops or cafes.
The said important event was attended by PARTIDO’s vice presidents of Academic Affairs and Administration, Ms. Minda Formalejo and Mr. Leoncio Obias, respectively, and other top officials including their IT department program director, Ms. Amelia Merano. PARTIDO is a fast-developing university located in the south of Luzon island composed of previously key colleges in Bicol, an agricultural region. The merger was deemed a milestone and raised the standards of academic instruction in the region. PDNC’s invitation signified the university’s trust in the IT company capability to further modernize the already IT-equipped university.
PARTIDO is recognized in the field of Sanitary Engineering among other fields with graduates placing the top 4th, 5th and 7th in the September 2006 national licensure exam. Quite an accomplishment considering they follow the well-known Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) in terms of most number of graduates in the top 10. MIT had four while PARTIDO had three in the top 10.
